ABOUT CUSTER

Custer County was founded in 1875, and remains as the oldest city in the Black Hills. It wasn’t incorporated until 1945. Like many other cities in the Black Hills, it was discovered during the gold rush of the late 1800’s. It is within minutes of a plethora of national and state parks / monuments like Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Jewel Cave National Monument.
