ABOUT HOT SPRINGS

Referred to as the “Southern Gate to the Black Hills”, the city lies at the southernmost corner of the Black Hills National Forest. It was named after the naturally occurring warm mineral springs found there, and was incorporated in 1890. It is home to the Mammoth Site, which is an active paleontological dig site. Since 1974, 61 mammoth remains have been uncovered, 3 of which are woolly mammoths.
